Alejandro Gutierrez, Dylan Devine, Isaac Chavez, Adrian Hipolito, Estevan Medina, Vidal Luna and Ulysses Vega all placed in the top 35, including five scorers in the top 20, to lead Madera South High of California to a 56-71 victory over Clovis West in the Central Section Division 1 boys final at Woodward Park in Fresno. Gutierrez took third overall, covering the 5-kilometer layout in 15:33.55 for Madera South, which secured its first Division 1 team title since 2016.
